Flight Routes
Flight 1: Mt Ercildoun & Lake Burrumbeet This route will take us in a north-west direction from the Ballarat Airport over the Western Highway to Mt Ercildoun. Situated at the foot of Mt Ercildoun is the Ercildoun Homestead, a historic homestead once being the home of author Colleen McCullock (Thornbirds). From Mt Ercildoun we will fly in a south-westerly direction to pass by Lake Burrumbeet before returning to the Airport.
Flight 2: Mt Cole & Challicum Hills Windfarm We will head from the Flight Park in a westerly direction to encompass a view of the Mt Cole State Forest renowned for its scenic beauty of forest, waterfalls and contrasting topography. From here we head in a west-south-westerly direction flying within sight of the Challicum Hills Windfarm, the largest windfarm in Australia, with the Grampians forming a memorable backdrop. The Western Highway will be the navigational guide towards the east returning us to the Airport.
Location - Road Directions
From Melbourne
We are located on the Western Highway 1½ hours drive from the Western Ring Road or Tullamarine Airport. Ballarat Airport is just off the Western Highway to the left. Turn off at the Learmonth Rd. exit (5th Ballarat exit) travel along Learmonth rd. towards city; approx. 800 Metres and Airport entry is on the right (well signposted) then follow the signs to the Aviation Museum where SkyTrikes is located.
